PRESSING TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES – DTF PRINTS
To ensure your finished garment comes as desired, below are recommended pressing times and temperatures. While individual results may vary and can depend on many factors, the below guidelines are a great place to start. If your pressing area, or where the garments were stored has a lot of humidity, it is suggested to perform a pre press on the garment to remove any moisture before applying the DTF transfer.
The film you have purchased is cold peel film. After the 1st press, allow the transfer to cool on the garment. When the transfer has reached room temperature, peel the carrier sheet off the garment SLOWLY. Start pulling from the area with the most ink diagonally until the entire sheet is removed.
After removing the carrier sheet, a second press for a minimum of 5 seconds is required to seal the transfer to the fabric or material. You may use an old poly shirt or a sheet of Teflon on the second press to add texture and reduce the “hand” feel of the transfer on the garment. This step is optional, and is up to the individual user if they wish to do.
100% Cotton : 280 up to 320 for 12 to 15 seconds at medium pressure
100% Polyester: 270 to 280 for 15 seconds at medium pressure
50/50 Blends: 280 up to 300 for 15 seconds at medium pressure
65 poly / 35 cotton: 275 for 15 seconds at medium pressure
Tri Blends 240 up to 250 for 20 seconds at LOW LOW pressure
Nylon and Rayon 240 to 265 for 20 seconds at low pressure
Leather 300 for 15 to 20 seconds at medium pressure
Silk 225 to 240 at 20 seconds at low pressure
All DTF transfers require a second press after peeling the film for a minimum of 5 seconds to seal the print to the garment and fabric.
Avoid hot stacking shirts with DTF transfers.
Polyester shirts require special attention to temperature, as you may experience color bleed or scorching of the polyester items if the temperature used is too high.
Always try 1 shirt for time, temperature, pressure and overall finished product before pressing all the shirts in your order. Ensure the graphic comes out as desired, there is no discoloration of the shirt blank, all the details in your art adhere well to the garment, and placement is correct.
